The Minimalist Indoor Setup
You don't need a $20,000 Trackman setup to improve at home. In fact, for mechanical changes, hitting into a net with a launch monitor can sometimes be a distraction. Here is exactly what you need to build a tour-level practice station in your spare bedroom or garage.
1. The Full-Length Mirror
The single most important tool for swing changes. You need to link what you feel to what is actually happening. Place it facing you (caddy view) or down the line. Cost: ~$20 at Target.
2. Putting Mat with Lines
Forget the ones with the auto-return hole that slopes up—they ruin your speed control. Get a flat mat with a straight chalk line. The goal is starting the ball on your intended line, not making a putt into a fake hole.
3. Impact Bag
Crucial for learning how to deliver the clubhead with shaft lean and squaring the face. You can fill it with old towels. Never use it with full swings—it's for slow-motion impact drills only.
